| October 27, 2009 Hello from SuperFood Drive! September and October have been busy and exciting months for SuperFood Drive. Thank you to all of you who came out to support us! If you missed out, read on for a quick summary of what we've been up to and future events to look forward to. Sustainable Planet Lecture Series SuperFood Drive tabled at the launch party for a Sustainable Planet Lecture Series at the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. As a result of events such as this, we are meeting many passionate individuals dedicated to food justice and sustainability, some of which are developing into working relationships and partnerships. Holiday SuperFood Drive with Whole Foods Speaking of partnerships, SuperFood Drive is excited to be working with Whole Foods Market in San Diego to host a Holiday SuperFood Drive in both the La Jolla and Hillcrest locations. Whole Foods Market's holiday SuperFood Drive will last from November 1, 2009 - January 1, 2010 and will include a "SuperFood Samplers" food demo at the Hillcrest location from 6:30-8:00pm on Tuesday, November 10th. If you can't make it that night, we'll be hosting a second SuperFood Samplers event at the La Jolla location on Tuesday, November 16th from 6:30-8pm. SuperFood Drive volunteers will be on site at both locations speaking with shoppers, handing out educational materials, and example non-perishable SuperFood shopping lists. This will be a wonderful opportunity to make a big impact in some local low income communities with a large amount of healthy non-perishables. San Diego Food Bank is providing the support, collection and distribution for the Whole Foods holiday SuperFood Drive. If you live in the San Diego area, come on down to your local Whole Foods and "Give the Gift of Health" by donating nutritious non-perishables now! SuperFood Drive to Exhibit at California Food Symposium, S3: Safe, Secure & Sustainable SuperFood Drive is going to have an exhibit at an upcoming Symposium on Food Systems & Public Health at the Hyatt Regency in Mission Bay which will take place on November 4-6, 2009. This is a great opportunity for us to network with influential individuals in many disciplines, including Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Nutrition, Food Safety, Food Industry, Agriculture, Academia and more. Check out the website for events, such as a guided food tour and dinner & a movie, to see if you might be interested in joining us. Turn Your Community Food Drive into a SuperFood Drive! Do you know of any food drives occuring during this holiday season? Perhaps your church, sinagogue, community center or child's school is having a holiday food drive. You can "Give the Gift of Health" by turning this food drive into a SuperFood Drive in 3 simple steps: - Talk to the coordinator in charge of the food drive and provide them with this brief overview page (PDF) on SuperFood Drive.
